When you ask most folks what comes to mind when they think about Texas, cowboys (and the boots and hats that go with them) will likely be near the top of the list!  In the early 1800s, cowboy boots were designed strictly for function.  The leather was sturdy and protected the rider’s calves, the stitching helped the leather keep its shape, the narrowed toe made it easier to slip their feet into the stirrups while the heel kept them from sliding out. Fast forward a couple hundred years and you’ll find incredible (and often unexpected) artistry and craftsmanship in boots for the entire family. Today’s cowboy boots might feature colorful patterns and embroidery or even rhinestones and metallic stitching.  But this design was inspired by the stitching patterns and worn leather of classic cowboy boots.  The row of dark brown at the base of the ribbing represents the sole of the boot. If y’all want to personalize your “boots” a little, try using a different color for the leather.  Pink, blue, black…the choice is yours!
