Where you find forests, you’ll likely find lumberjacks (at some point in history, anyway). The forests of Northern California were bustling with lumberjacks and logging camps in the years following the Gold Rush. Thankfully, today’s logging industry is quite different. But, the spirit of the old-timey lumberjack lives on in folktales, songs, plays, and even modern day competitions. Plaid or checkered flannel shirts have become the unofficial and universally recognized “uniform” of lumberjacks around the world …and the inspiration for this design. This fun-to-knit buffalo check pattern transforms to plaid using a crochet hook method to add vertical stripes. A few wooden buttons complete the look of a flannel shirt.
